The Gun Debate

I am gonna return with something some people are going to find controversial in light of what happened in Newton. I am opposed to more gun control legislation, and I am for one simple reason. It doesn't work.

Done howling and gnashing teeth out there? Ok, the fact of the matter is as the united states has become more and more well armed violent crime has gone down, and concealed carry holders have proven they are less violent than the average for their areas. Get it yet? Law abiding citizens are just that, despite what the president and democrats might have you believe a criminal is a criminal and someone willing to jump through hoops to exercise their second amendment rights is less likely to step over any lines than your average citizen. Oh, and let us not forget how many gun owners are veterans, another group who historically have a high respect for rule of law. Legal gun owners have never been the problem, and criminals by definition are not going to acknowledge "gun free zones" or any other legal construct prohibiting them the tools of their trade.

Combine that with the very simple argument that it is my right, as promised by the founding documents of this country, to bare arms and I don't see how there is a debate here. High capacity mags, semi-automatic weapons (basically anything made in the last 100+ years by the way) and the type or amount of ammunition someone can buy aren't the problem, criminal thugs are. If anything a high capacity firearm is far too often the solution to the problem.

I'm Not Dead Yet

Sorry about vanishing, oh readers. Real life has become hectic with the new job, gym schedule, classes and ever so much more. I won't whine about it though, life is treating me pretty well and I am feeling great. The problem is unlike a lot of the beta males out there I'm of the opinion that you take care of the things that need doing first, and then you use all the energy you have left to have fun. Unfortunately I just haven't had a lot of energy left.

The Reality of Benghazi

The New York Post has an excellent article up about the testimony of former General and CIA Director David Petraeus on the Benghazi snafu and it is damning to the Obama administration.

Until Friday, there were two possible explanations for why the White House failed to immediately call the Benghazi attack an act of terrorism. One was incompetence, the other was worse.
Now there is only one, and it is the worse one. Based on the persuasive testimony of ex-CIA boss David Petraeus, it is clear the Obama administration made a deliberate decision to mislead Congress and the American people.
The repeated claim that the attack was spontaneous and grew out of a demonstration against an anti-Islam video — a claim made by the president and secretary of State as they stood next to the bodies of four dead Americans — was a monstrous lie. It was vile and done for the basest of reasons.
Because we now know the truth of what happened — CIA reports were edited to remove the names of al Qaeda groups involved in the attack, Petraeus said under oath — we also know the motive. It was political self-preservation, meaning the president and his team put politics first.

It doesn't get much plainer than that folks. This administration made politics their primary concern over the deaths of Americans, including two Navy Seals and Ambassador Stevens, you can read more here, it is just nice to see some old school media finally taking the president to task over this, not that I expect to see much come of it. The case against Holder is being settled and it looks as if all of the little indiscretions of President Obama's administration will be swept by the wayside.

News Dump: The Integrity of Democracy... Or Democrats, At Least.

Ok, the site is probably only going to update a couple of times a week for the foreseeable future. I just have enough stuff going on that the daily updates I've been failing to deliver are entirely unrealistic.

Newsmax has an... interesting article up here about mentally handicapped individuals, many of whom living in group homes, being coaxed or coerced in to voting for Obama. When you have all of the reports of voter fraud, intimidation, and suppression we did this election cycle it makes things... even this seems low, but it is not a surprise.

World War Z!

World War Z will be coming to theaters in 2013 and I'm both horribly frightened and excited about what they will do to probably the finest piece of zombie apocalypse fiction since the new testament.

On one hand it looks like it has a huge budget, on the other the narrative concept of the book is going to be.... difficult.... to adapt to a big screen motion picture. Then again Brad Pitt for all the jokes has a great track record when it comes to picking off-beat roles that don't fit the normal leading man image and a lot of people said you could never adapt Tolkien to the big screen so with the right director who knows?

News Dump: More Signs Of The Singularity

Geekologie has a great article up here about a prosthetic arm claimed to be the most advanced in the world.

Not really much else there, I could rant and rave about the Petraeus scandal, but honestly the hinky timing and cutesy news coverage speak volumes. When he testifies tomorrow I hope he channels Jack Nicholson in "A Few Good Men" and nails asses to walls, the man is a damn hero and the way the administration and it's complicit media are manufacturing outrage over his personal life show what sorts of intellectually dishonest cowards they are.

The Perfect Start To The Season

This is the $240 Whisky Advent Calendar. Behind each of the 24 doors is a little 1-ounce bottle of different whisky. Despite the price tag I want one... I mean... Whisky Advent Calendar? I'm sure the all father will forgive me for celebrating a christian holiday.

Weekend Movie Fest

This weekend I saw two movies, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Both were interesting, but only one actually met my expectations, I'm going to warn you now, spoilers lie ahead.

I saw Silent Hill: Revelations 3D on sunday and was immediately impressed. The movie starts out creepy and the dream Sharon, the main character, has directly foretells the big confrontation Sharon will have.  The 3D is slightly off... which works to give the whole movie an interesting surreal quality.
Unfortunately it's all for naught, by the time Sharon gets to Silent Hill to rescue her dad, the writers seem to have given up. Vincent the love interest who was raised in the Order of Valtiel is essentially kidnapping bait, and there is very little time spent on character development beyond Vincent proclaiming his love and Sharon's "innocence", the relationship between father and daughter is established and beyond that, not much.
With that failing it really becomes more of a showcase of special effects, instead of a true horror movie. I'm not going to complain about that because the effects really do sell themselves.
The moment that would make or break the movie  is the confrontation with the demon Alessa, which as Sharon's dream predicts takes place on a flaming, demon powered merry-go-round. Bad ass, right? The final confrontation is them hugging it out, and Sharon somehow destroying Alessa. Shortly after Sharon goes to take her dad and Vincent back from the Order, in doing so she turns the matron of the Order (Vincent's mom) in to a monster and is saved by Pyramid Head (apparently Alessa's protector, and since Sharon was part of Alessa....), the big problem with this final fight is it was poorly paced and entirely predictable.
All in all the movie just failed to deliver.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter promised to be ridiculous from the start, and it was, with kung fu axe fights jumping on the backs of stampeding horses. How do I even go on from there? The movie does anchor the story in Abe Lincoln's life and does fair credit doing it, but never with more than a wink and a nod. It is a fun satire with solid special effects and cool wire-fu choreography. Seeing Abe put aside his axe as a young man only to take it back up one last time for a secret mission as an old man during the civil war was cool and they don't pretend you don't lose a step with age, but they do have him stay a bad ass. This movie exceeded all my hopes.

News Dump: New Seasons On TV And The Middle East, And More!

So, I've been a huge Burn Notice since the early seasons and tonight we get the two hour season premier. I have to admit I am worried about rumors this might be the last season though. We need Bruce Campbell on TV! All Hail The Chin!

Althoug, it does make me ask how Sam Axe would handle this story and why there wasn't confirmation in anything like a timely manner. Did the Pentagon really have a hard time confirming that I'manutjob and the Iranian regime at large are responsible for shooting down a Predator drone flying over international waters?

In better news (well, than the Iranian thing, nothing beats Burn Notice, baby) there is a story up here that Eric Holder might not be staying on as the Attorney General. On one hand that will make it easier to prosecute the dirty scoundrel, on the other hand do we really want to see how bad Obama's second choice is? Scary, no?

Words From The Past After Our Election

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

Vote!

Get out there and vote today if you haven't already, things look good for Romney in Ohio but there are areas where things are a bit iffy, and not because it is a tight race. We're all looking at you  Philly. Obama murals, GOP officials being ejected from their lawful posts, and the return of the New Black Panthers, Oh my!

Disenfranchising the Society of Cincinnatus

Since the military traditionally votes heavily Republican, I can only assume one side is responsible for this story of voter disenfranchisement, which is just sad. I'm former military and no it doesn't make me a great person, but this sort of kleptocratic horse manure is startling. Remember vets, protect your vote, you've served and you deserve a say in how this country is run.

Benghazi Blunders And Energy Policy Revealed

The Las Vegas Review Journal has put out an article that if it gets in to the wider media is a body blow to the myth of Obama being a supporter of American prosperity In the article they contain such gems as this:

Back in January 2008, Barack Obama told the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle that under his cap-and-trade plan, "If somebody wants to build a coal-fired power plant, they can. It's just that it will bankrupt them." He added, "Under my plan ... electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket." It was also in 2008 that Mr. Obama's future Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, famously said it would be necessary to "figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe" - $9 a gallon.

If that wasn't damning enough it uses the various communications, official and otherwise, too and from the white house to discuss  just how incompetent the administration has been in the face of the "incident" in Libya which our president found to be "not optimal".

The official explanation for the inadequate security? This administration didn't want to "offend the sensibilities" of the new radical Islamic regime which American and British arms had so recently helped install in Libya.
The official explanation for why Obama administration officials watched the attack unfold for seven hours, refusing repeated requests to send the air support and relief forces that sat less than two hours away in Italy? Silence.
An open discussion of these issues, of course, would lead to difficult questions about the wisdom of underwriting and celebrating the so-called Arab Spring revolts in the first place. While the removal of tyrants can be laudable, the results show a disturbing pattern of merely installing new tyrannies - theocracies of medieval mullahs who immediately start savaging the rights of women (including the basic right to education) and who are openly hostile to American interests.

It's my opinion this is the sort of body blow that could sink Obama's reelection efforts if it got out more readily, read the whole thing here

Pumpkin Carving, Obama's Friends And Foul Weather Drinking

So it turns out there is one more use for guns besides just killing stuff and breaking things, you can also make festive holiday decorations with them. Awesome.

It also appears, according to The Daily Caller, that the reverend who gave president Obama's inaugural benediction is another white guy hating racist. What's that old line about knowing a man by the company he keeps? The pres sure has a bad habit of surrounding himself with crooks, commies, terrorists and racists if you ask me.

I have been reminded recently my alcohol cabinet is inadequately stocked, as I had no port to weather the storm with when Sandy blew through.

Boeing successfully tested a microwave missile that will either eliminate enemy command and control electronics... or make them a lot of popcorn very briefly, maybe both.

Westbor Baptist Church Planning Their Own Genocide

The idiots at the Westboro Baptist Church are planning their own ruination, with a protest on Veterans Day at Arlington National Cemetery. Suicidal asshats. Here is a cut from their press release.

Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA    November 12, 2012  10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Westboro Baptist Church will picket Arlington National Cemetery as a perfect follow up to our nice Pentagon Picket.
Did we mention that the Pentagon had fag day last June? The next stop is hell, and as you wait for your body to join your soul, fashioned to be perfectly suited for hell, for eternity, that dead carcass can have a pit stop at Arlington. What a worthless and telling place! They worship the dead there. They insist that you go quietly and that you cannot run and that you must sit if you are in the range of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (listen up rebels, God knows who is in that tomb, he cast that soul into hell, and he called for the tomb, so that in that day, when rebel carcassas come out like worms from their holes to join their rebellions soul, and many more words on that, I say, God has arranged for all the right pieces of dust to join their souls for that trip.
Also, this is Veteran’s Day. Where the nation joins together to shake their fist at God and spit in his face.
They got their dates wrong, day late and a dollar short for their meds, but still...

Do It Yourself Videos

Yesterday I had to repair some computer issues, but I am putting up (late, yes) another in the series of Birth Of A Tool series by John Neenam. This time? A chisel is born. It kinda makes you want to frow a beard and go out somewhere to work in a forge, doesn't it?

How Many Words Is This Picture Worth?

News Dump: The Punk Is Alive!

So I haven't dropped any posts in a few days, I know, I suck. I had a lot of work including trying to arrange an exclusive interview (the subject chickened out over some questions that would make the president look bad) for the site. Between that, hunting for work, the storm here in Florida and squatting in DDO waiting for them to open the halloween festival event I kind of let things slip here.

Anyone see the creepy get out the vote video the Obama camp has out? I might have to start calling him president bad touch  at this rate. He certainly has raped the economy. Between Lena Dunham, Sandra Fluke, Gloria Allred and all the hubbub about voting with your lady parts I wouldn't let my girlfriend attend an Obama rally without a forty caliber rape whistle... assuming I was in to chicks dumb enough to support this administration I mean. Seriously, the guy is starting to make old Bill  "Lift your skirt so I can wet the tip of this cohiba" Clinton look restrained and respectful. The folks over at the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler have some great commentary on the whole situation here if you want to take a look, and you know you do. They are even more profane than me, after all.

Despite all the media confusion over Benghazi the real stuff seems pretty damning, white house communications now confirm that the office of the secretary of defense and the secretary of state were in real time communications with the consulate, we had forces on hand that could respond including an AC-130 that was refused permission to fire, and General David Petraeus (currently the director of the CIA, the guy is hard as hell, read here) has stated he was all for giving the go ahead for troops to do their thing. More and more it looks like we didn't act because this administration cared more about Libyan lives than American ones.

According to this article Charles Woods said Biden came over to his family and asked in a “loud and boisterous” voice, “Did your son always have balls the size of cue balls?” concerning his son, one of the brave and highly trained men who died defending ambassador Stevens,

Making Tools

To cleanse the palate from political discourse and how damn incompetent the current white house resident is I am going to start sharing videos of craftsman at their work here every monday, today it is The Birth Of A Tool Part 1 by John Neeman.

Voting Dead

There are pretty openly known voter fraud problems in North Carolina
in 2010 those problems surfaced meaningfully as indicated in the below voter fraud relate Charlotte Conservative Examiner article:
"Perhaps in an effort to promote North Carolina as one of the healthiest States in the Nation, this latest voter twist comes to us from Susan Myrick of the Civitas Institute in North Carolina--not to be confused with Rep. Sue Myrick of NC who is unrelated. In a radio interview with local WBT Anchor Tara Servatious, Susan reports that she has been keeping track of the number of votes in North Carolina of individuals over the age of 110 years and apparently we have quite a few, over 410 of the 110 year olds--to be exact-- actually voted via absentee ballot on October the 28th."

According to a some reports, there were at least seven hundred fifty eight individuals over the age of 112 who had either risen from their respective graves, or otherwise, to vote once again for the Democrats in charge, who apparently have also guaranteed them an ever-lasting and immortal vote for life, and in visiting a political tracking site, you can find the same evidence, except the number of centenarian voters increases to an astonishing eight hundred thirty two voters over the age of 112. Of these voters, over 70% were slated as Democrats, with a diminutive 25% counted as Republicans and the rest of these restless corpses were unaffiliated undead americans. According to some reports multiple of these individuals have voted by mail in ballot, my guess is they have all gone to Haiti to get a little embalming work done before they celebrate voting

Watch Those Numbers Fly

Apparently This Administration Really Likes Videos

According to this New York Post article the President had some pretty clear indications of what was going on in Benghazi, they watched the whole thing on video from a predator drone after all. “They stood, and they watched, and our people died,” former CIA commander Gary Berntsen told CBS News.

Spectre AC-130 Gunships were on station at nearby airbases. That is in contrast to the this statement from an unnamed white house official that when the attack began, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Martin Dempsey and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta “looked at available options, and the ones we exercised had our military forces arrive in less than 24 hours, well ahead of timelines laid out in established policies.”

Despite video evidence and eyewitness testimony making him out to be the ringleader of the attacks Ahmad Abu Khattala, who has admitted being at the consulate during the horrific attack, has yet to be questioned by any Libyan or American authorities. “These reports say that no one knows where I am and that I am hiding,” he boasted to the New York Times. “But here I am in the open, sitting in a hotel with you. I’m even going to pick up my sister’s kids from school soon.”

And all this while a weak president says he will take every measure to insure justice is done.

Conspiracy Theory? Maybe. Accurate? Certainly

I try not to focus too much on conspiracy theories, as someone with a more than passing familiarity with the processes of gathering and assessing intelligence I know how easy it is to get trapped in the hall of mirrors and a lot of the stuff out there sounds kind of paranoid.

That being said the debate last night looked just a bit too scripted at times, with Candy Crowley actively assisting the president by referring to an administration approved set of transcripts (transcripts that do not match up with the video of the events referenced) and taking prepared questions that had language in them disturbingly similar to official white house statements.

Read more here at The Last Refuge to see how the debates are being scripted for Obama and Bide after the shellacking the president took from Romney in the first debate, and the collusion between this administration and the press as it is laid out by a former journalist for CNN, Amber Lyon amongst the many stretches of supporting video.

Alarmingly enough was that the president was allowed to direct the moderate, making her look for transcripts for him, but in one case she did so to support a falsehood. Mitt Romney rightly asserted that it took President Obama fourteen days to refer to the Benghazi attacks as terrorism and Obama maintained that he called them terrorist attacks during his Rose Garden speech the next day. The transcript of the relevant section of the speech is below, with emphasis added.

Of course, yesterday was already a painful day for our nation as we marked the solemn memory of the 9/11 attacks.  We mourned with the families who were lost on that day.  I visited the graves of troops who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan at the hallowed grounds of Arlington Cemetery, and had the opportunity to say thank you and visit some of our wounded warriors at Walter Reed.  And then last night, we learned the news of this attack in Benghazi.

As Americans, let us never, ever forget that our freedom is only sustained because there are people who are willing to fight for it, to stand up for it, and in some cases, lay down their lives for it.  Our country is only as strong as the character of our people and the service of those both civilian and military who represent us around the globe.

No acts of terror will ever shake the  resolve of this great nation, alter that character or eclipse the light of the  values that we stand for.

Today we mourn for more Americans who represent the very  best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see  that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be  done.
As you can see he only spoke about acts of terror in a very general way and never directly attributed the Benghazi attacks to terrorism. In the context of the administrations two weeks of condemnations towards a youtube video and discussion of spontaneous protests it is hard to grasp precisely how Candy Crowley was able to say with a straight face that Obama's version of events was correct, unless it was scripted, rehearsed, and she went in to the evening knowing she was going to be a good media lick-spittle and carry water for the president.

Make It Or Break It

The good folks at Make have released volume 32 of their publication, which includes some awesome advice on projects and complete schematics for 23 projects you can do yourself if you have the time and desire. This is just another resource for those do it yourselfers to take advantage of, but it isn't simply tech since they publish great articles on the philosophy of making it yourself, intellectual property, and the community that surrounds these sorts of projects.

Dissent Is Supposed To Be Patriotic, Right?

16 October 2012: One man’s tropical paradise is another man’s prison. Imagine being “stuck” on Oahu. I’m sure you could think of worse situations, but really stop and think about the following true and evolving situation. You’re a “normal” 34 year-old guy, live on the U.S. mainland in Gulfport, Mississippi, and recently married a woman who is a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy stationed in Okinawa. You’re a citizen of the United States and possess a valid U.S. issued passport. You’re not a criminal and have no history of felony or misdemeanor convictions.  In fact, you recently passed a background check to own and carry a firearm in Mississippi. You are, however, an outspoken patriot for the United States Constitution.

The above is the chilling account laid forth at Northeast Intelligence Network and it lays out how those who disagree with the current administration are being watched and intimidated in some fairly startling ways. The author of the article states that it is an ongoing story and will be doing a segment with one of the people at Infowars, but you should read more here.

Radicalization? Really?

Well, that seals it, report me to DHS, Obama thing I'm an extremist.

The Further Chronicles Of Pussy Riot

According to Reuters two members of punk band Pussy Riot have lost their appeal to stay in a detention center in  Moscow earlier this week, and will now serve the remainder of their terms in a remote penal colony where conditions are much tougher.

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, and Maria Alyokhina, 24, had their sentences imposed over a cathedral protest against Vladimir Putin upheld by Moscow City Court last week. They are convicted of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred and their prison terms will be two years each. Both Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina have small children and lawyers are saying that a transfer to a colony outside Moscow where the regime is more strict than in detention centers will complicate their contacts with families.

"There are many concerns there -- their safety, their health. A barrack for 150 people is not the same thing as a cell for four people," lawyer Mark Feigin told Reuters. The nearest penal colony is located about 100 km from Moscow. While there is precedent for prisoners serving out their term in detention facilities in Russia, it is restricted to terms of six months or less.

Pop Culture Time

I've always been a fan of some odd movies and television shows, and as it turns out a favorite of both was Zatoichi, the stories chronicled the adventures of a blind gambler-masseur-swordsman. You read that right. Well, it turns out a few years ago an homage/sequal was made entitled Ichi about a blind girl the original hero rescues and teaches before leaving her in a community of blind women. Ichi is eventually kicked out after being accused of an affair and has adventures with a ronin she meets while searching for Zatoichi. A lot goes down in this movie and I have Craig and the others at Viking Samurai to thank for turning me on to this continuation of a great franchise.

Romney, Obama And Sensata

So a lot of people in the news are making a lot of noise about Romney owning stocks in Sensata, a company that shipped jobs to China. The thing is while Bain Capitol did buy the company they did it more than a decade after he left the company. He does own stock in Sensata but that isn't the smoking gun it seems to be, since he owns the stock through a blind trust that contractually he has no control over the investments of.

Contrast this with the way Obama owns stock in Sensata through a retirement fund, and has personally invested in other companies that ship jobs over seas according to this Soopermexican article and the narrative becomes a bit more problematic. The October Surprise Part 2? Not really and there is a good chance this will backfire on Obama if any of his mainstream media lackeys bother to report on his finances.... like that would ever happen.

Marine Gives Handicapped Boy A Leg Up

A marine helped a physically handicapped boy compete the Sea Turtle Triathlon in Pensacola Beach. Ben Baltz has competed in several triathlons despite having a prosthetic leg, and on Sunday he got a helping hand from Marine Pfc. Matthew Morgan who literally carried the boy on his back when it looked like Baltz would be unable to completel the last portion of the triathlon, the run, due to a wobble in his leg. A Legend Passes

CSM Basil Plumley reported to the man upstairs at 0430 yesterday. He was ninety two years old and died in a Columbus Georgia Hospice after a quick fight with cancer.
A warriors warrior, and a legend among combat vets, a three war soldier and career infantryman. He made all three of the combat jumps with the 82nd Airborne in WWII (Five combat jumps in all over his career), fought in Korea, and was the 1st Battalion 7th Cavalry Sergeant Major on their early deployment to Vietnam, including the Battle of Ia Drang. He was immortalized by Sam Elliott in the movie We Were Soldiers…, but didn’t need a movie to be revered among infantrymen in both the Army and the Marine Corps.

News Dump: State Of The Punk

So, my schedule has been hectic lately, along with commission work my day job has been tossing 15 hour days my way.

Currently I am signed up for and already working on some ideas to feed in to Vehicle Forge for DARPA's FANG initiative. This is a really great opportunity for people interested in the sciences, military development and the future of the nation to get involved without a huge buy in. Read more here.

Harry "Hairball" Reid has kept up his history of fabricating lies to tell about Mitt Romney, this time the issue is deportation exemptions on which Reid has "quoted" Romney as saying the exact opposite of Romneys stated positions. Read all about it here at the Washington Times.

Twitter is blowing up after word has hit that leaving last week's debate Obama actually believed he had won, read some of the hilarious responses on Twitchy right here.

News Dump: After the Debate

So, it is coming out that Romney fairly soundly beat Obama in the debate. I could have told everyone that would happen. Romney is a man with a history of conveying a vision to his business partners and getting them to buy in, Obama demagogues to crowds that largely  buy in to his vision.

Even Stephanie Cutter, one of The One's campaign staffers admitted Romney won on her own Twitter account, and you can follow the fallout here on Twitchy.

Joe Biden is doubling down on the dumb admitting that him and the President want to raise taxes by a trillion dollars. Might I suggest his handlers buy him a new Kong chew toy? He seems to have worn out his old one. Seriously though I can see why Obama keeps him around, no one would risk the president's health with this dim bulb on deck should anything happen.

Does good ol' Joe realize tax hikes deflate economies and we are in a recession still? Someone sit him down in front of some school house rock because the old guy is seriously stupid.

Obama spiked the Bin Laden football again in a Denver campaign speech but failed to mention the lost Marines at Camp Bastion. Guess it doesn't fit his narrative about an honorable withdrawal. He also continued the war on lady parts narrative. Can't wait to have an adult in the white house again.

News Dump: Updates From The Punk And More

So, lately I have been dealing with a lot of stuff personally and professionally, this means I have had no time for updates. I could bitch about it like a little girl but in fact until I have cleared my plate a bit I'm just going to post recipes and news dumps. It isn't as much as I would like to do but it is something for my regular readers and keeps the site up to date.

Former Obama Czar Steven Rattner (do I even need to make a political rat joke?) had an article in the NY Times that makes it clear, detractors of Obamacare where right and rationing can be expected. Rationing healthcare access based on life expectancy.... you mean a death panel? This is blowing up on twitter and there is a great twitchy page here.

The Marine Times has a story up that shows the gross negligence of the current administration, the Bastion attacks are not being reported on by a complacent media but they represent the largest air power loss in Afghanistan the coalition forces have suffered and is a textbook example of how timelines embolden an enemy. You can read the whole account here.

The good folks of the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler have some excellent gun-porny information on proper defensive firearm use here.

Obama Needs Commissars

Justice Department documents released today by the ACLU reveal that federal law enforcement agencies are increasingly monitoring Americans’ electronic communications, and doing so without warrants, sufficient oversight, or real accountability. It's always been a favorite canard of the left that conservatives are fascists but the graph below shows that Obama's flexibility might be buying him some lessons from ex-KGB manly man Vladimir Putin.

Electronic Surveillance isn't by default some boogeyman, but those are orders on U.S. Citizens and as you can see there has been a rather dramatic increase under the current president. That is the scarey part. Twenty years ago taps required a physical device be installed as an intercept but now the technology is built in to phones as part of keeping records. With that sort of technology it is only more imperative we are careful of precedents.

You can read more about this at Clash Daily here.

I'm Bored, The President Sucks, Here's A Chart On One Of Those

This is still further proof that Obama knows sweet fuck-all when it comes to economics. That is all. Seriously, why are you still reading this?

Sounds of Silence

So my punkish side will come as no surprise to anyone reading it, but I also have a thing for well done, metal and weird covers on classic songs. One of my favorite metal bands (I rate them alongside classic Metallica) came out with an album last year and I never got around to a review but the stand out piece, for me at least, was their cover of the classic Simon and Garfunkel song "Sounds of Silence". I think they managed to strike the perfect balance of respect for the original haunting melody with injecting a hard edged metal sensability, which is no simple task. But I'm done, I'll let the song speak for itself and you, dear reader can give it a listen.

The President Is Either A Liar Or Doesn't Listen

U.S. Intelligence officials knew that the Benghazi attack that resulted in the murder and necrophiliac rape of Ambassador Stevens and the murder of three other Americans was not a spontaneous attack but coordinated by members of Al Qaeda within 24 hours of the event itself. They even had a location for at least one of the involved parties and had connected an affiliate group called Ansar al Sharia to the Libyan debacle.

It raises the question of whether Obama is a liar or just doesn't listen to his intelligence briefings... oh wait, we know he gets less than forty percent of his briefings. Not that the two are mutually exclusive. Obama surrogate and adviser Robert Gibbs, and Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice continued the spontaneous attack meme as recently as this sunday when he spoke to Fox News. How much more of this gross incompetence can the Pax Americana, already showing wear and tare at the seams, hold up against?

Martinis From Hell

Master of Malt is producing what might be the worlds hottest vodka by infusing delicious vodka with naga jolokia peppers to create a beautiful, caramel colored concoction with a mouth burning measure of 250,000 on the Scoville scale which is an impressive fifty times hotter than the average measure for a jalapeno.

Most people will buy this for the novelty but for hard core heat freaks this opens up some possibilities, like a hot bloody mary or a martini from hell. I'm planning to try both once my bottle arrives not to mention using it to shock my less adventurous friends... though not much of that one, I don't want to waste good booze.

Heinleinian Paradise

In Honduras the Heinleinian dream of a libertarian society with minimal government influence and powers is going to be put to the test as a private investment group is creating it's own city state with the agreement of the Honduran government who hope that the experiment will lead to an economic boom for their small and poverty stricken country.

“Once we provide a sound legal system within which to do business, the whole job creation machine – the miracle of capitalism – will get going,” Michael Strong,  CEO of the MKG Group, which will build the city and set its laws, said.

The MKG group has stated they will base their laws on Texas as it consistently rates near the top of the charts for economic freedom. The major difference will be even greater flexibility in contract law. Unfortunately not everyone is on board as leaders of the local Garifuna tribes are not swayed by projections that the MKG sponsored independent city will created two hundred thousand jobs over the next several years with fifteen million dollars invested in local infrastructure once construction begins. The project might be stopped by those protests, but if it isn't I will be watching this with interest.

Obama Sucks, Now In Chart Form

Feel free to share this chart – with information compiled by Senator John Thune’s office. Show how much Obama sucks to the people in your life who are considering giving the bozo in the white house a second term to to do our economy what Bo does to Biden's leg. In every area we are worse off as a country than we were four years ago. Do the math.

News Dump: Speed Bumps And Other Idiocy

The folks at the Ani-Idiotarian Rottweiler have an excellent article up describing the arrogance and superficiality of the President's response in Pakistan and the rest of the middle east after the Libyan attack on Ambassador Stevens. Read it here if you want to read the opinion of someone who compares themself to a Rottweiler, swears like a sailor, and calls themself a part of the vast right wing conspiracy.

A lot of attention has been paid to Mitt Romney's financials, but word is coming out that top adviser Valerie Jarret has investments associated with real estate going through a Bermuda bank (tax shelter) thanks to reporting by ABC.

Charles Krauthammer is one of those pundits no one can seriously call an idealogue, and he has started really pounding the media bias drum over the way Obama's comments about the embassy attacks have been covered. It is only one more voice in the chorus, but anyone familiar with Krauthammer knows it is a voice difficult to dismiss.

Canada's Fraser Institute has released it's current rankings of economic freedom world wide, and thanks to Obama we have a new position dropping to 18th place bookmarked by Qatar at 17th and Kuwait at 19th.

NFL Unchecked

So, I gave myself a couple of days to chill out about it but.... Where the hell were the refs on sunday? I know they are replacement refs, the regulars are involved in a dispute with the league. Fine, but do you need all that much training to call the multiple head hits that took place in the Patriots versus Ravens. I'll admit I'm a partisan, I have a Bledsoe jersey for crying out loud but sunday was insane. I lost count of the hits to Branch's head, the man had to feel like he was in a boxing match instead of a football game and all the announcers could talk about was how the Ravens had practiced for the dirty style of play under the replacement refs. I like a game with some bang, hard hitting plays and a certain... intensity, but even I am beginning to want the old refs back.

Lizzy Warren Gets Slammed In Debate

Legal Insurrection has painted a pretty good picture of the debate between Scott Brown and Fauxcahontas:
Elizabeth Warren’s law license problem
Maintained private law practice at Cambridge office for over a decade but not licensed in Massachusetts
The debate last Thursday night between Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren covered ground mostly known to voters.  But there was one subject most people watching probably did not know about, Elizabeth Warren’s private legal representation of The Travelers Insurance Company in an asbestos-related case.  Brown brought the point up late in the debate, and hammered it:
Warren attempted to deny her role, and referred to a Boston Globe article, but the Globe article supports Brown’s account. The Globe article indicated the representation was for a period of three years and Warren was paid $212,000. The case resulted in a Supreme Court victory for Travelers arising out of a bankruptcy case in New York.
Whatever the political implications of the exchange, Warren’s representation of Travelers raises another big potential problem for Warren.
Warren represented not just Travelers, but numerous other companies starting in the late 1990s working out of and using her Harvard Law School office in Cambridge, which she listed as her office of record on briefs filed with various courts. Warren, however, never has been licensed to practice law in Massachusetts. (emp. mine)

News Dump: Death, Taxes and Elections

The countdown to Taxmageddon has begun at Free North Carolina and you can read here how we are approaching the single biggest tax hike in U.S. history. Because really, what you want to do in the middle of a bad economy is take even more out of the marketplace.

At the same time Obama's surrogates are having to back off calling Romney a tax dodger since it turns out he paid an effective rate north of thirty percent when his charitable donations of over four million dollars are calculated in. As a contrast Biden donated less than a thousand dollars last year, and the president while donating an impressive donation total over one hundred and sixty thousand dollars still failed to meet the same effective tax rate as his opponent. President Obama paid an effective rate of approximately twenty percent. This year both president and veep paid more, but only a fraction of Romney's giving even when combined.

Despite Anderson Cooper admitting that not only does a journal recovered at the scene of Ambassador Steven's murder in Benghazi state his concerns as security threats, islamic extremism, and al-Qaeda, CNN continues to carry water for the president by perpetuating the false narrative that all of this somehow has to do with an obscure youtube video.

"When your guy left town, Dubya - who nobody asked him to come back by the way at the Republican convention - unemployment was well past ten percent and skyrocketing." That is according to Chris Matthews, the MSNBC schmuck with no ratings or charisma who I like to call Tingles ever since his over emotional gushing at a speech by then candidate Obama. At the time he was talking to a conservative radio show host and I can't believe he got away with it since it is pretty patently untrue. At the time of the RNC in 2008 unemployment stood at 7.8 percent, lower than any single point during his successor's presidency (much lower if you factor in all the people who have left the work force permanently or temporarilly under Obama) which begs the question, how desperate are the libs?

In a bit of more disturbing news the Department of Homeland Security has bout 1.4 billion rounds of ammunition in the last six months alone, including 450 million rounds of .40 hollow point ammunition. That is enough ammo for  and a half years of the Iraq war (70 million rounds annually average) in just hollow point. Two hundred years worth of ammo for the Iraq war in total. Let’s put these DHS numbers in perspective. An Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer displaces (weighs) 9,300 tons.  1.4 billion rounds weigh around 28,000 tons, three destroyers’ worth, so to speak. It takes over 1,200 18-wheel trucks to move that much ammunition. That’s the equivalent to a line of single trailer trucks, parked end to end, almost 14 miles long.

Bad Flag

You would think with that optic floating around, comparing the "perfected" flag the Obama campaign is using to raise funds to the ghastly blood stains left behind in Benghazi by the vicious murderers of a U.S. diplomatic official that maybe the campaigner in chief would take that particular item off the shelf, but that doesn't seem to be the case just yet. Of course there is more reason than just that to complain, who is this clown to do a redesign of our flag and call it "perfected"? Of course, it is just another sign of the presidents own nigh incomprehensible arrogance.

Get Drunk With The Gourmand

Behold the Witches Brew!!!

Pretty little thing, isn’t it? And perfect for Halloween. But we all know we don't need an excuse for cocktails.
  • 1 oz. Bacardi Dragonberry Rum
  • 1 oz.  Blue Curaçao
  • 1 oz. Crème de Banana
  • Juice of one Lime
  • Black Sugar
Pour ingredients except sugar in shaker with ice, shaking well. Pour into a martini glass rimmed with the black sugar. Sinfully sweet and sure to steal your senses if you have enough of them.

A Gamer Will Be Missed

Sean Smith, a foreign service information management officer killed with three others in an attack on an American consulate in Libya, has been remembered not just as a husband, father and 10-year State Department veteran, but also as an influential diplomat in the sprawling virtual galaxy of EVE Online.

Known to his online friends as "Vile Rat", the 34-year-old State Department officer had a large profile in the multiplayer game EVE Online, which features more than 400,000 players captaining starships, buying and selling virtual goods, engaging in corporate espionage and electing a government composed of real-world players.

He was also a long time member at Something Awful, respected where ever he set up shop online for expertise, friendliness and generally being a stand up person. You can read more here and here.

Fact Checking The President

The Washington Examniner has a great article up fact checking the president entitled "The Obama You Don't Know". Now, I won't pretend to be nonpartisan on this issue, I think the fact checking the mainstream media has done on the president since he jumped on to the national stage has been pretty weak, but this article is great even if it isn't complete.

Actually, that is a point I'd like to dwell on. Despite some people pointing out the chapter format and how well "The Obama You Don't Know" would work well as a series of articles, it still isn't complete. Now, no  one expects a news paper to publish a biography on the president, but the narrative he and his handlers have presented for so long is so filled with falsehoods it seems like that is what it would take to right the record.

The article is laid out in chapters covering the periods and specific lies of Obama's life, from a priviledged upbringing in Menteng, one of Jakarta's most exclusive neighborhoods and private schooling as a teen in Hawaii at one of the most prestigious establishments on the islands while his grandmother served as the Vice President of a bank. The myth of him being a rock star teacher is thoroughly deconstructed and the way Chicago politics shaped him is examined. It's a great, gripping read of a story and shows how the media has flacked for the president over his manipulative "life story" for the last several years.

Morlocks Are Artists

That's right, our friends at the Morlock Revolt aren't just fighting the good fight with humor, but they are adding their own bit of input to presidential art with their carefully worded addition to some donation solicitation material of the President. They also have some great faux album and comic book covers, give them a gander.

News Dump: The Insane Fed, Oil Prices, And More

What's the definition of insanity? Well, if you have ever heard that line before you know it is doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting different results. So is Fed Chairman Bernanke insane for issuing another round of "quantative easing" of the market place, this time aimed at buying up mortgage securities, insane? QE3 is likely to have no more effect than QE1 & 2, where there was a brief period of growth followed by a strong retraction as the pool of free money dries up. With the election drawing closer and oil prices set to skyrocket in the face of middle eastern insanity that President Obama has opposed only weakly and seemingly reluctantly... maybe not. From a political perspective it is purposely timed if he wants to keep a job Romney has already said with be someone elses if the GOP candidate wins in November. It is however insane if you are looking to turn this economy around or reduce the deficit after the U.S. suffered another downgrade of it's credit rating to AA-.

Amidst all the other chaos in the middle east Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is calling for a strong stand and support from America on the issue of Iran and nuclear weapons. Of course he might be just howling at the moon, the current resident of the white house has refused to meet with representatives of our longest standing ally in the region.

Greg Gutfeld of Fox commentary show, The Five scorched Obama and the lame ducks in the mainstream media, watch and enjoy the evil little munchkin lay in with his typical gusto and over the top flair.

Ann Coulter has another article out about our media and how out of touch they are with their complaints that Romney isn't a regular guy, is out of touch, and is a blunderer. Read it all here at Right Wing News, if you want to be even more bemused in the so called "real journalists.

If you liked the Gutfeld video, here is some more fun footage of Obama admitting he is cool with redistribution. Any rube fresh off the turnip truck shouldn't need even more evidence, but there it is in the words of the man himself and if you believe the media hype about him being a great communicator you have to take Obama at his word, don't you?

Now Can I Call Them Savages?

Paragraph three of this article by the International Herald Tribune proves it, Muslims hate us because our freedoms are toxic to them and their insipid, goat buggering ideology. It seems to be particularly true of the Pakistani breed as they are calling on the U.S. to criminalize blasphemy. Can I just say I find it funny how the ones who always call on us to change our laws to suit them are the first ones to accuse us of international meddling? Maybe now would be a good time to reconsider all that aid money we send Pakistan on a yearly basis since their people are threatening the destruction of our diplomatic facilities over there?

JKD Matrix: Next Step Forward In The Arts?

Paul Vunak has been making waves with his claims of creating a complete art based on six parts and informed by the philosophy of Bruce Lee and Dan Inosanto. Black Belt Magazine gave him several pages in their most recent issue and even with the article in front of me I'm conflicted. According to Vunak he takes parts from Wing Chun and Savate for their centerline control using trapping and specific kicks respectively, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai are in the mix for grappling and striking  in their cases and because MMA arguably shows them to be two of the more effective martial arts in the world. The last pieces of the puzzle are the Filipino art of Escrima for it's stick fighting and knife techniques and Kino Mutai for "escalating violence". Yeah, I disagree with that last one, and I disagree with it full force. Handling a violent situation isn't a matter of style but a matter of the student and how the teacher instructed them. I've seen Aikido practitioners deal with a threat brutally and Tai Chi Chuan experts that will put an attacker down in a heartbeat.

Those are my complaints, but I do agree with a lot of what Vunak is trying to do, I've studied Thai kickboxing, Escrima, and Savate myself for the reasons he describes and while I still prefer a lot of Karate strikes to Muay Thai ones because the motions are tighter I won't fault someone for disagreeing and I do make use of the thigh kick myself. I took up judo and wrestling for my own ground game and I've picked up trapping techniques along the way.

You would think with that sort of overlap I would be a huge fan of what Paul Vunak is doing and I both am and am not. What a lot of people don't realize is that Bruce Lee was not in favor of "styles" but of using what worked and growing your skills in an organic fashion, remaining receptive to new teachings and allowing them to blend with what you already had to make a whole greater than it's parts. Maybe it is just presentation in this case, but I think anyone who forgets that bit of wisdom and starts crowing about their new style too soon still has some things to learn.

News Dump: Stimulus Money and Chinese Solar Panels, Oh My! And That's Not AIl!

The GSA, it turns out, has been approving the purchase of Chinese solar panels for the greening government buildings initiative that was supposed to be one of those shovel ready jobs the president spoke about in first presidential campaign. To make matters worse these are some of the same companies that are cited as a cause for another government investment, Solyndra, going bankrupt.

Turns out that the Romney "47 Percent" comment that Mother Jones has been hyping may have been edited, they are claiming the camera feed may have been accidentally switched off for as much as two minutes or possibly less, but Breitbart writer makes a pretty good case for there being something more.

So, most people are aware now that we are suspending joint field operations between our soldiers and Afghani forces. It's to the point where we trust our allies so little that we require a two star general to sign off on it to work with them in the field. With friends like these do our boys really need to fight enemies both foreign and domestic?

Not only does author Terry McMillan  despise Romney so much she refuses to name him, now she wants to take away his viagra. How is she so well informed on the state of Mitt's junk, that is what I wan to know.

47 Percent Controversy

It isn't hard to see why some people think this is a slam dunk for Team Obama, but like the cartoon shows, those people where not  about to vote for Romney anyway. What the GOP candidate said is only really controversial if you want it to be since the statement is essentially a factual appraisal of strategy, and  it's a lot more indicative of bias in the media than most people think. All you need to do to reach that conclusion is look at how the press buries the lead any time Obama stumbles on an open mic or footage of him doing something unflattering comes out from his past.

Liberal Lies And The Arab World

Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice is still maintaining these attacks on American embassies, especially the one in Libya, which have made use of rocket propelled grenade launchers, indirect and coordinated fire patterns, and other  military tactics and hardware are spontaneous reactions to a movie (one that has been getting attention on the net since June) while the president of Libya himself admits these were planned terrorist actions.

The timing isn't a coincidence, this blew up on the anniversary of the single largest terrorist attack to ever be directed against America and extremists are coordinating across borders and while the situation in Yemen has been largely peaceful, in Egypt it has been anything but. Violence against reporters and diplomatic officials looks like it might be the new norm in the middle east so why isn't it being reported?

Some would say it is simply because no one in the media wants to admit that Obama's policy in the middle east, and especially concerning the Arab Spring, is working. I have to admit it isn't a bad hypothesis, with the way so many news outlets covered his apology tour, and him bowing to foreign heads of state... you have to wonder if some of the so called journalists are fans of their own country, I just say it's more evidence of the president's cult of personality in the press corps and another reason we need someone... anyone... else in the white house.

Fun With Guns

What's old is new again as the EBR, based on the 7.62 NATO M14 battle rifle is set up as a Designated Marksman's Rifle and is being issued to soldiers who need the more potent cartridge and increased range over what the 5.56 NATO M4 carbine provides. Don't get me wrong, I love the M4, but it is nice to see our boys getting issued a tried and true design with a big more bang and range for long distance engagements.

A lot of people are obsessed with the idea of the modern battle field, the idea of one size fits all solutions, and logistical simplicity and while that sort of thinking has it's place when a new  trick... or an old trick made new again is relevant you work it in to your TO&E.

Since '04 branches of the military has been re-issuing the M14 in EBR form, starting with the Navy SEALs and the Coast Guard. The Army has really embraced the EBR and has made two available for every infantry squad deployed to Afghanistan so you know this isn't just a flashy spec ops toy. "Today we are practicing and familiarizing ourselves with our new M14 7.62mm weapon before we go to the range in preparation for our fall deployment to Afghanistan," said Spc. Daniel Lueptow. "Though I understand the need for adjustment for this upcoming deployment, I enjoyed the older model and did well with it on my last deployment."

Many people are happy to see that the Army and other branches of the U.S. military are bringing back the big .30 caliber long-stroke gas operated rifles, with about the only complaint  being that they're not lightweight rifles. The M14EBR-RI weighs roughly 11.5 pounds unloaded and measures in at 40 inches long. That being said, they are pretty soft-shooters that remain effective well beyond 800 meters with glass.

Same Old Song And Dance

MSNBC is trotting out the same old song and dance, calling efforts to eliminate voter fraud as an effort by conservatives to suppress the vote, and the current champion of this charge is long time anchor Richard Lui. Lui is generally about as fair as anyone can be on MSNBC... which is a lot like saying he is the cuddliest wolf in the feral pack,  but it still has to count for something, so it is fairly surprising he is making such a baseless and contentious charge. It comes across as pretty blatantly partisan since he had two liberal experts on his show calling it an effort to keep minorities from voting, but could barely be bothered to quote members of the conservative group True The Vote, whose sole purpose is to insure fair elections and fight fraud. I hate to say it but it looks like Lui is in the tank for President Obama like the rest of the president's mainstream media lackeys.

Wake The F#*K Up

That is the title of a advertising spot supporting President Obama that is going to be put out there by the Jewish Council For Education And Research, the same idiots that gave us Sarah Silverman's "free lesbian sex" campaign add where she dry humped a dog. Needless to say this is probably going to be tasteless and since Samuel L. Jackson is going to be in it, likely capitalize on his ability to drop F Bombs.

I'm actually somewhat torn on this, one the one hand I believe politics are important, and this presidential race even more so. Too important to devolve to the level of "entertainment". On the other hand... as much as I disagree with Jackson's politics (He was involved in the black power movement and found it empowering when they started buying guns) I am a huge fan of his work, he has a huge range as an actor from cool and collected, to coldly menacing, to bombastic and over the top. I hope his politics don't burden his career on one side, and on the other I really do wish he would Shut The F#*K Up.

Gaming Dorkness

So, have some things on order to make my first hard cider, and while I wait I've decided to wrap up a few games on my PC that I've left languishing during their second playthrough, and a new game. First on the menu is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, probably one of my favorite Star Wars games, despite some flaws like an overly responsive camera the game really is a work of art, even today. The problem is I stopped playing the second time through when dealing with the rather... unlovely "bringing down the star destroyer" boss fight. Anyone who has played it recognizes this fight not so much as difficult, but as an annoying grind of knocking out Tie fighters and  yanking on a capitol ship with the force.

After that I'm going to give Clive Barker's Jericho a spin. I missed this title when it first came out and it has received some mixed reviews based on gameplay that was called outdated even when it came out, and a squad of teammates that failed to be engaging. Overall most reviews call it mediocre but acceptable and I picked it up for $2 so no big risk and honestly it has Clive Barker's name on it so... I want it regardless. The man is the undisputed american master of horror.

When I get through with those I'll be returning to Mass Effect 2. I love this beautifully crafted hybrid of cover shooter and rpg almost too much, and this will be my 3rd playthrough. The only reason I didn't finish it last time was I burned myself out resource mining due to a "research ALL the upgrades" fit that had me floating around the stellar map for waaaay too long. Now if only I could find my copy of Alpha Protocol...

Downgrade

Obama has now presided over the first AND second downgrades of the United States credit rating, as earlier this week the credit rating company Egan-Jones has reduced the rating for the U.S. from AA to AA- despite the treasury secretary stating that economic quarter three would bring us out of this slump. In fact Egan-Jones has stated that "issuing more currency and depressing interest rates through purchasing mortgage-backed securities does little to raise the U.S.’s real gross domestic product, but reduces the value of the dollar" in a direct refutation of Keynesian pump priming. Suck it libs.

Blue Moon Over Congo

That, dear reader, is the face of the lesula. It's a relative of the "owl faced monkey" cercopithicus hamlyni. Notable for it's multi towned fur, expressive face, and blue ass, it is native only to a small portion of the Congo, unknown to all but a small group of villages in the region. It eats mainly soft plant stalks, leaves and flower buds making it a habitual herbivore. Now that it has been properly identified however scientists are taking steps to insure what little natural habitat the lesula has is protected so that this tiny critter can continue being both creepy and cute....

...damn does it look stoned though, seriously, who gave the lesula a joint before taking pictures?

DIY: Brew Your Own

A good drink is one of those things most everyone enjoys, because there are such a wide variety there is something for ever palate. From ciders to meads, bitters to bocks, pilsners to porters. Wow, almost broke in to a Poxy Boggards song there... Anyway, my point is I have the whole Cat's Meow Brewing series and I'm planning to experiment with the recipe, the first on the list is cider. When it is ready I'm going to have a sampling with friends and post the results here.

A Bite With The Gourmand

Fudge Toffee Pecan Cookies
Buttery toffee, toasted pecans all in rich chocolate cookie; whats not to love?
What to buy: Skor or Heath bars work best in these cookies.
The delicious flavor of these cookies requires an excellent-quality cocoa powder with a 20 to 24 percent fat content.
Game plan: If you decide to use homemade or real-butter toffee, the toffee pieces will melt faster, giving the cookies a lacier appearance.
The cookie dough can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 24 hours; it can also be stored in a resealable plastic bag in the freezer for up to 2 months. In either case, allow the dough to come to room temperature before baking.

Time and Servings
Total Time: 35 mins
Makes: 24 cookies

Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon fine salt
8 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 stick), at room temperature
6 tablespoons packed dark brown sugar
6 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 large egg, at room temperature
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup coarsely chopped toffee, from about 3 (1.4-ounce) bars
1/2 cup toasted pecan halves, coarsely chopped

Instructions
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F and arrange a rack in the middle. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl and whisk to aerate and break up any lumps then set aside to line a baking sheet with parchment or waxed baking paper for later.
  2. Combine the butter and sugars in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Mix on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3 to 4 minutes. If a mixer isn't available this can be done by hand but it is more than a little bit of a pain. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl. Add the egg and vanilla and mix on medium speed until smooth, about 1 minute.
  3. Reduce the speed to low, add the flour mixture, and mix just until the dough comes together. Add the toffee and pecan pieces and mix until they are evenly distributed.
  4. Scoop the dough by rounded tablespoons and place 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheet. Bake until the cookies are set around the edges but still soft in the center, about 9 to 11 minutes.
  5. Remove from the oven and allow to cool to room temperature before removing the cookies from the baking sheet, about 10 to 15 minutes. Repeat with the remaining dough. Once cool, store the cookies in an airtight container to maintain their soft texture.

News Dump: Islamic Rage, Conspiratorial Journalists, And More!

The U.S. Embassy in Cairo was defaced with pro Osama Bin Laden slogans in the attack, as well as phrases supporting a United Muslim state. Can we call these asshats terrorists yet? They certainly aren't our friend, and anyone who believes this went down without some serious support by the state or at the least the Muslim Brotherhood is a fool or naive at best and a dhimi at worst.

Of course WikiLeaks is making the claim that the U.S. and U.K. are to blame for "normalizing" the storming of embassies by not denouncing the "threat" posed by protestors outside of the Ecuadorian embassy where Julian Assange has holed himself up to avoid Swedish extradition.

We all knew the Mainstream media are frantically trying to spin for The One and insanely point fingers at Mitt Romney over a statement. But we may have proof now of a coordinated effort by journalists to try and make one presidential candidate look bad while covering for his opponent in the White House, and there isn't bias in journalism? You can read a partial transcript and listen for your self at the Righscoop in this article.

Recently Chuck Woolery, game show host and all around entertainer has been hammering Michelle Obama, asking why the AARP doesn't defend Clint Eastwood, and now attacking "racist code" nutters like Toure Neblett. on Twitchty you can see the reaction he has been getting but I'm going to repost his youtube video titled "The Cracker Code" here.

Obama May Be Top Dog, But Only Because The Mainstream Media Are His Bitches

Katrina Trinko has a great article up at National Review about the insane grilling the mainstream media gave Mitt Romney over the situation in Libya and Egypt in relation to comments he made decrying the barbarism over there. In contrast later that same day the group in ideological lockstep with Chris "Tingles" Matthews seemed to give President Obama a complete pass, letting him escape with no foreign policy questions addressed at a press event focused on foreign policy. Is anyone seriously aware of the situation and dismissing the whole issue of media bias? These people laud him as a Nobel winner when he got the prize based on his strength as a symbol of change and they refuse to question him except to toss him softballs on what sort of chili he prefers. Oh, I forgot though, that interview can't be used to criticize the media because we have a president that thinks it dignifies the office to appear on a morning zoo program.
